Mayo Echocardiography Board Review Course (EBRC) is an intensive course over 5 days specifically designed to prepare attendees for success on the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) certification exam. It has a focused emphasis on the NBE examination format covering the entire field of Echocardiography including ultrasound physics, 2D and M-Mode, hemodynamics, valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, heart failure and cardiomyopathies, pericardial disease, congenital heart disease, and newer imaging techniques including strain and 3-D echocardiography. Well-known experts and recognized educators, comprised of Mayo Clinic faculty in each field of echocardiography will give in-depth didactic lectures pertaining particularly to integration of echocardiographic data into clinical practice. Each lecture will include multiple choice type question and answer sessions facilitated by an audience response system. This course is also an excellent choice for individuals looking to refresh and replenish their Echocardiography knowledge as it provides a comprehensive review of Echocardiography with pearls and concepts required for the clinical practice of Echocardiography. The course is supplemented by online supplemental content including board-style questions and answers.

New this year, based on feedback from attendees, is the incorporation of focused break-out sessions allowing the learner to choose supplemental content meeting individual needs on topics including hemodynamics, valve disease, and sessions on strain and 3D both with respect to knobology and use in clinical practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • State basic physical principles of ultrasound and instrumentation
  • Correlate cardiac gross pathology with echocardiographic images
  • Evaluate cardiac chamber size, left ventricular systolic and diastolic function, and right ventricular systolic function
  • Analyze and interpret echocardiographic derived hemodynamic data
  • Interpret transesophageal images and distinguish attributes and limitations versus transthoracic echocardiography
  • Evaluate acute and chronic ischemic heart disease using standard and stress echocardiography
  • Diagnose etiology and severity of native and prosthetic valvular heart disease
  • Distinguish causes of heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and pericardial disease
  • Diagnose cardiac masses
  • Diagnose diseases of the aorta
  • Identify echocardiographic features of systemic disease with associated cardiac involvement
  • Integrate new echocardiographic techniques
  • Quantify etiology and severity of native and prosthetic valvular heart disease
  • Differentiate causes of heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and pericardial disease
  • Differentiate cardiac masses
  • Distinguish diseases of the aorta

INTENDED AUDIENCE
