COURSE DESCRIPTION
This symposium will highlight the management and new technology utilized in the critical care unit to care for patients admitted. Expert faculty will provide up-to-date education on multifaceted care for patients presenting with myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiac rhythm disorders, and shock along with appropriate imaging, monitoring, and medical management. Special attention will be given to limiting complications in the cardiovascular care units for best-practice principles. The program will have didactic lectures integrated with challenging case discussions to highlight this rapidly growing field of medicine and a novel break-out session addressing optimal team dynamics in resuscitation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review topics pertinent to the care of critically ill patients with cardiac disease;
  • Identify updates in resuscitation science and implementation;
  • Discuss science of teams and building high performance multi-disciplinary collaborations; and, 
  • Diagnose cardiogenic shock and describe management strategies.

Cardiovascular Critical Care
This interactive session will build on the evidence-based advances in the practice of modern cardiac critical care medicine as illustrated on the first two days through cases, posters and trivia to test knowledge and skills.  Participants will gain clear strategies to immediately improve their practices. The session will highlight cutting edge delivery, clinical practice, medical research, and quality improvements to help providers improve their practices. 

Resuscitation Teams in Cardiac Critical Care
Effective team communication is crucial in the resuscitation of critically ill cardiac patients. This interactive session will provide key pearls and pitfalls to share with your team members for optimal team development for successful resuscitation outcomes. Workshop leaders will facilitate collaborative analysis for building high-performing teams through leadership, role clarity under pressure and crisis communications in a time sensitive environment. The session will be led by a team from Mission Critical Teams Institute. Registration is limited for this session.
