This symposium will highlight the management and new technology utilized in the critical care unit to care for patients admitted. Expert faculty will provide up-to-date education on multifaceted care for patients presenting with myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiac rhythm disorders, and shock along with appropriate imaging, monitoring, and medical management. Special attention will be given to limiting complications in the cardiovascular care units for best-practice principles. The program will have didactic lectures integrated with challenging case discussions to highlight this rapidly growing field of medicine and a novel break-out session addressing optimal team dynamics in resuscitation.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review topics pertinent to the care of critically ill patients with cardiac disease;
  • Diagnose cardiogenic shock and management strategies;
  • Discuss science of teams and building high performance multi-disciplinary collaborations; and,
  • Discuss management of the post-surgical critical care patient.

Cardiovascular Critical Care
This interactive session will build on the evidence-based advances in the practice of modern cardiac critical care medicine as illustrated on the first two days through cases, posters, and trivia to test knowledge and skills.  Participants will gain clear strategies to immediately improve their practices. The session will highlight cutting edge delivery, clinical practice, medical research, and quality improvements to help providers improve their practices.

Resuscitation Teams in Cardiac Critical Care   Registration is limited for this session.
Effective team communication is crucial in the resuscitation of critically ill cardiac patients. This interactive session will provide key pearls and pitfalls to share with your team members for optimal team development for successful resuscitation outcomes. Workshop leaders will facilitate collaborative analysis for building high-performing teams through leadership, role clarity under pressure and crisis communications in a time sensitive environment. The session will be led by a team from Mission Critical Teams Institute.

Hands-On Workshop | Sunday, April 14, 2024
Workshops will be led by instructors with a wealth of knowledge and experience.  Limited group size will allow learners time to perfect skills and leave the workshop feeling confident as you integrate into practice.
Workshops Offered:
- Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop
- Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Workshop

Additional fees and pre-registration required
Registration Fee: $650

Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop - Space is limited.

POCUS is rapidly becoming a commonplace bedside tool to improve timeliness and accuracy in patient management. Program didactic lectures will provide valuable knowledge and basic principles to turn the bedside application of portable ultrasound into a valuable tool for clinical utility.  Workshop participants will be split into smaller groups to gain hands-on experience with expert guidance.   Whether you are a physician, NP, or PA, this workshop seeks to provide the outpatient or inpatient cardiology provider with the fundamental knowledge and skills to incorporate POCUS into your practice.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Workshop  - Space is limited.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) utilization is used in life-threatening lung or heart conditions seen in the ICU.  This session is for those interested in managing patients requiring ECMO therapy in the acute care setting. Participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary for managing the adult population with case-based scenarios, hands-on simulations, and interaction with expert faculty.
