COURSE DESCRIPTION
This symposium will highlight the management and new technology utilized in the critical care unit to care for patients admitted. Expert faculty will provide up-to-date education on multifaceted care for patients presenting with myocardial infarction, heart failure, cardiac rhythm disorders, and shock along with appropriate imaging, monitoring, and medical management. Special attention will be given to limiting complications in the cardiovascular care units for best-practice principles. The program will have didactic lectures integrated with challenging case discussions to highlight this rapidly growing field of medicine and a novel break-out session addressing optimal team dynamics in resuscitation.

CONCURRENT HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS | Sunday, March 2, 2025 | 7:00 am - 2:30 pm
Workshops will be led by instructors with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Limited group size will allow learners time to perfect skills and leave the workshop feeling confident as you integrate into practice. Reserve your spot for your preferred session at the time of registration - additional fees and pre-registration required

WORKSHOPS OFFERED:

  • Cardiac Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop - Space is limited.
    POCUS is rapidly becoming a commonplace bedside tool to improve timeliness and accuracy in patient management. Program didactic lectures will provide valuable knowledge and basic principles to turn the bedside application of portable ultrasound into a valuable tool for clinical utility.  Workshop participants will be split into smaller groups to gain hands-on experience with expert guidance.   Whether you are a physician, NP, or PA, this workshop seeks to provide the outpatient or inpatient cardiology provider with the fundamental knowledge and skills to incorporate POCUS into your practice.

  • Temporary Mechanical Circulatory Support Workshop  - Space is limited.
    Mechanical support is used in life-threatening lung or heart conditions seen in the ICU. This session is for those interested in managing patients requiring mechanical circulatory support therapy in the acute care setting. Participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary for managing the adult population with case-based scenarios, hands-on simulations, and interaction with expert faculty spanning multiple devices.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • review topics pertinent to the care of critically ill patients with cardiac disease;
  • diagnose cardiogenic shock;
  • review the approach to managing cardiogenic shock in the ICU;
  • discuss management of the post-surgical critical care patient; and,
  • identify the various forms of ECMO support while explaining their individual roles in clinical practice.
