COURSE OVERVIEW
This course will place special emphasis on the use of Multimodality Imaging, including "invasive" echo (TEE/ICE), in CHD with a theme on fetal echo.  This symposium is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy, clinical aspects, imaging, and management of patients with congenital heart disease.  In addition, we will feature sessions devoted to Prenatal Cardiology, Management of the Pregnant patient with CHD.

The symposium will highlight the use of echocardiography and other cardiac imaging techniques to recognize, understand, and manage patients with congenital heart disease using a case-based format. This three-day symposium is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the anatomy, clinical aspects, imaging, and management of patients with congenital heart disease.  The symposium will include case discussions, didactic seminars, anatomic and imaging correlations, and discussions of multimodal imaging to illustrate the impact of cardiac imaging on treatment, diagnosis, and management of patients with congenital heart disease.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the anatomy and physiology of common congenital cardiac conditions.
  • Interpret 2-D echo/Doppler hemodynamics in the setting of congenital heart disease.
  • Recognize limitations and appropriate applications of echocardiography in congenital heart disease.
  • Recognize significant CHD in prenatal, pediatric and adult patients with CHD.
  • Describe the surgical/interventional procedures used to treat common congenital cardiac conditions.
  • Apply novel imaging views to the evaluation of patients with CHD using transthoracic echocardiographic equipment.
  • Integrate the most up-to-date echocardiographic and multimodality imaging techniques into patient management.

Attendance at any Mayo Clinic course does not indicate or guarantee competence or proficiency in the skills, knowledge or performance of any care or procedure(s) which may be discussed or taught in this course.
