COURSE OVERVIEW

The 41st Annual Echocardiography in Congenital Heart Disease will place special emphasis on performing and integrating echocardiography and multimodality imaging into the care patients with CHD.  In addition, this year we will again feature a special session devoted to “hands-on imaging” and the “special” views used to assess congenital cardiac malformations.

The symposium will highlight the use of echocardiography and other cardiac imaging techniques to recognize, understand, and manage patients with congenital heart disease using a case-based format. This three-day symposium is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the anatomy, clinical aspects, imaging, and management of patients with congenital heart disease.  The symposium will include case discussions, didactic seminars, anatomic and imaging correlations, and discussions of multimodal imaging to illustrate the impact of cardiac imaging on treatment, diagnosis, and management of patients with congenital heart disease.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the anatomy and physiology of common congenital cardiac conditions
  • Describe the surgical/interventional procedures used to treat common congenital cardiac conditions
  • Interpret 2-D echo/Doppler hemodynamics in the setting of congenital heart disease
  • Recognize limitations and appropriate applications of echocardiography in congenital heart disease
  • Recognize significant CHD in prenatal, pediatric and adult patients with CHD
  • Apply novel imaging views to the evaluation of patients with CHD using transthoracic echocardiographic equipment
  • Integrate the most up-to-date echocardiographic and multimodality imaging techniques into patient management

Attendance at this Mayo course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught in this course.

INTENDED AUDIENCE
This course is designed for adult and pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, fellows in training, and cardiac sonographers. The emphasis is on echocardiography, but topics will included both multimodality imaging and clinic management strategies.
