Overview:

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a non-atherosclerotic cause of acute coronary events that has emerged as an important cause of myocardial infarction and sudden death, particularly young women. This conversation will review what is known about SCAD, its diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, and highlight some of the challenges and biases that have contributed to missed and delayed diagnoses and research gaps in SCAD.

 

Objectives:

  • Describe the unique demographics and presentation of SCAD
  • Identify 3-4 conditions or factors that are associated with SCAD
  • Describe SCAD-specific diagnostic and treatment considerations at acute presentation and in subsequent care of SCAD

Target Audience
It is a topic of interest to cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, oncologists, general internists, radiologists, and all groups of providers including trainees, NP/PA’s, and physicians.
