COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide the clinician and cardiac sonographer with an update on the basic concepts as well as advanced techniques when assessing cardiac disease with echocardiography and other imaging modalities in a case-based format.  Experts in echocardiography will use illustrative cases and lectures to highlight the role of echocardiography.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe how to use image optimization techniques
  • Apply use of echo Doppler in a patient with heart failure symptoms
  • Recognize how to assess disease severity by echo and other imaging modalities in common adult valvular heart disease
  • Recognize the role of echocardiography in percutaneous aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve intervention
  • Recognize the role of intraprocedural transesophageal echocardiography in guiding transcatheter valve interventions
  • Describe measurement principles for right and left heart chamber quantitation

INTENDED AUDIENCE
This course is intended for adult and congenital cardiologists, cardiology fellows, surgeons, and cardiac sonographers who have basic experience and knowledge in echocardiography.  This course is also intended for other medical specialists, internists, surgeons and anesthesiologists working to further their experience in clinical application of echocardiography.
