This section will contain information regarding issues related to cross cultural communication including cultural competence, eliciting health and healing beliefs, cultural humility, implicit or unconscious bias and working with health care interpreters. 

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the term “Cultural Competence”
  • List some of the established health disparities known to exist for patients of various cultures
  • Describe how the ladder of inference affects out thinking process as we start with a fact and come to a decision or action
  • Give examples of techniques to enhance the use of a health care interpreter
