Comments by Past Scholarship Participants

"This was a transformational experience. I learned not only clinical knowledge from each lecture but also pearls about medical education."

"Several points stood out to me about the Mayo Clinic Cardiology Board Review Course. First, the lectures are delivered by content experts and AHA/ACC guideline writers in their respective fields. There is an effort to harmonize concepts across days so the lectures are not disparate. Second, the lecturers use interactive and innovative teaching methods. Dr Geske and Dr Cullen's pressure-volume loop exercises provided the greatest clarity on this topic I have seen in ten years. Third, there are special sessions dedicated to the nuances of ECG coding, angiographic coding, and echo coding, with live coding practice sheets as well as post-course practice exercises. Fourth, the course directors create a lighthearted and welcoming environment for everyone, whereby we could pose the most minutiae of minutiae to content experts. Being surrounded every day from breakfast to dinner by others who are focused on learning definitely helped my learning. I am so grateful to be selected as part of the inaugural class of Nishimura Scholars. I am also grateful to Yale (my home institution) for supporting me in coming to the Mayo Clinic."   -Ruey Hu, MD, MPH
