Overview

Two Dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) is a new imaging modality that can evaluate myocardial mechanics in three vectors of contractility: longitudinal, circumferential and radial directions. The units are strain (%) and strain rate (1/sec). A clinical scenario to apply this new technique is in patients with potential complications from cancer treatment, this new field is called Cardio-Oncology.

Objectives

  • Describe case examples in Cardio-Oncology and review the application of 2D-STE
  • Identify patients which can be appropriate candidates for 2D-STE and biomarkers
  • Integrate  2D-STE and biomarkers into Cardio-protection
