This tutorial seeks to equip the learner with the ability to accurately and confidently measure the QT interval and confirm or refute the computer-derived QTc value. Six pearls will be provided enabling a robust QT/QTc interpretation. Assessing not only the length of repolarization (i.e. the QT interval) but also the look of repolarization (i.e. the T and U wave morphology) will be emphasized in order to distinguish normal U waves from pathological T waves. When and how to evaluate further for possible QT-related pathology will be detailed and the importance of respecting the potentially life threatening scenario that occurs when an individual crosses the “QTc > 500 ms line” will be made crystal clear.
