This tutorial seeks to equip the learner with the ability to diagnose coarctation of the aorta using clinical and echocardiographic information. Particular attention is directed towards two-dimensional, color-flow and spectral Doppler (pulse and continuous wave) and physical examination of patients with suspected coarctation of the aorta. The differences in clinical presentation these aortic conditions in neonates, older children, and adults will be reviewed. This tutorial includes a summary of surgical and transcatheter treatment options for coarctation of the aorta. Lastly, an overview of interrupted aortic arch, with relevant clinical and echocardiographic pearls is presented.
