It is estimated that 30 to 40% of adults in the United States require medical treatment for hyperlipidemia. Lifestyle modification is a key component of cardiovascular disease risk reduction. National guidelines recommend individualized assessment of cardiovascular risk for developing fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction or stroke over the next 10 years followed by assessing patients for appropriateness and dosing of potential lipid lowering therapy.
